A buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2024-5564) exists in libndp, a library used by NetworkManager for IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Protocol. The flaw is in the route information length field, which could lead to memory corruption. Red Hat has issued a security update for libndp in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extended Lifecycle Support to address this issue. The vulnerability is rated as having an important security impact by Red Hat. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

A vulnerability was found in libndp. This flaw allows a local malicious user to cause a buffer overflow in NetworkManager, triggered by sending a malformed IPv6 router advertisement packet. This issue occurred as libndp was not correctly validating the route length information.
