A path traversal vulnerability (CVE-2025-27553) was identified in Apache Commons VFS when using NameScope.DESCENDENT. Commons VFS provides a unified API to access various file systems and supports multiple file system types. This vulnerability could allow unauthorized access to files outside the intended scope. Red Hat has issued a security update for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extended Lifecycle Support to address this issue. The severity is rated as moderate by Red Hat Product Security.
