CVE-2025-61971 is a medium severity vulnerability affecting AMD EPYC 9004 Series Processors. It involves missing lock bit protection in security-sensitive hardware controls within AMD firmware. This flaw could allow a malicious hypervisor to execute arbitrary code on the AMD Secure Processor (ASP), escalating Memory Mapped I/O (MMIO) read and write permissions and compromising the confidentiality and integrity of SEV-SNP guests. Google has applied mitigations for Confidential VM instances using AMD SEV-SNP, and no customer action is currently required.
