A numeric truncation error exists in chainguard-dev apko versions 0.2.0 up to but not including 1.4.5. The vulnerability occurs when parsing UID and GID fields from /etc/passwd and /etc/group entries without proper range checks, causing out-of-range values on 64-bit platforms to truncate or wrap incorrectly. This can lead to unprivileged UIDs or GIDs being interpreted as root (UID/GID 0) in the built OCI container image. The issue is fixed in version 1.4.5.
