0 Apache Pulsar versions from 2.8.1 before 4.0.14 and from 4.1.0 before 4.2.5 contain a vulnerability in the MultiRolesTokenAuthorizationProvider. This provider improperly authorizes clients based on roles listed in a JSON Web Token (JWT) without verifying the token's signature when fallback to an anonymous user role is enabled. This allows unauthenticated clients to forge or use unsigned tokens to gain arbitrary roles, potentially including super-user access, enabling unauthorized read and modification of tenants, namespaces, topics, permissions, and broker configuration. Deployments using the default authorization provider or without the anonymousUserRole setting are not affected. The issue is fixed in versions 4.0.14 and 4.2.5 and later.
