A buffer over-read vulnerability exists in the PostgreSQL ascii() SQL function that allows a user with limited privileges to read up to 3 bytes beyond the intended memory allocation by providing a crafted text input. This vulnerability affects versions prior to PostgreSQL 18.5, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24. The issue is similar to a previously fixed defect (CVE-2026-2006) but has a lower impact. The vulnerability has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 4.3 and does not require user interaction for exploitation.
