0 CVE-2026-19593 is a critical vulnerability in OpenAI Codex Desktop for Windows and macOS that allows external control of system or configuration settings via malicious Git metadata. An attacker can craft a repository with a specially configured .git/config file that triggers execution of attacker-controlled programs with the signed-in user's privileges when the workspace is opened. This occurs without any user prompts or command approval, enabling unauthorized file access and credential compromise. Exploitation requires Git to be on the system PATH and the user to open the attacker-prepared repository with its local Git configuration intact.
