CVE-2026-44788: CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in adamhathcock sharpcompressCVE-2026-44788 0 SharpCompress versions 0. 47. 4 and earlier contain a path traversal vulnerability in the IArchive. WriteToDirectory() method. This flaw allows a malicious archive to create directories outside the intended extraction root. Specifically for TAR archives, this can be exploited further by chaining with a symlink entry to achieve arbitrary file writes on the target filesystem, limited by the permissions of the running process. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 5. 9, indicating medium severity. No official patch or remediation guidance is currently provided by the vendor.
