CVE-2026-47754: CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in NCEAS metacatCVE-2026-47754
0

CVE-2026-47754 is a critical path traversal vulnerability in NCEAS Metacat versions 1.x and 2.x through 2.19.1. It allows unauthenticated remote attackers to read arbitrary files accessible to the Tomcat process via the legacy 1.x API's 'archiveEntryName' parameter. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of user input in ArchiveHandler.readArchiveEntry() and a disabled permission check. Metacat 3.0.0 and later remove the vulnerable 1.x API, eliminating this issue. Workarounds include disabling or restricting access to the 1.x API endpoints on affected 2.x deployments.
