CVE-2026-52684: Time-of-check Time-of-use (TOCTOU) Race Condition in PowerDNS RecursorCVE-2026-52684
0

CVE-2026-52684 is a low-severity time-of-check time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition vulnerability in PowerDNS Recursor versions before 5.5.0. It occurs when authoritative responses are very slow and DNS records expire during processing, causing TTL capping to not be enforced due to lack of data. This issue specifically affects the refresh of authoritative NS records when nearly expired records are used. Regular DNS resolution is not impacted because child records are either valid or expired and not used. There are no known exploits in the wild and no official remediation information is currently available.
