Specifically, wildcard expansion proofs using NSEC/NSEC3 records are accepted without proper signature validation when the wildcard answer is a CNAME or DNAME record. This issue affects certain versions of PowerDNS Recursor prior to fixed releases. The vulnerability has a low CVSS score of 3.7 and no known exploits in the wild have been reported.
