A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem involving kprobe and freplace programs allowed abuse of the kprobe_write_ctx feature. Specifically, uprobe programs, which have the actual program type KPROBE, could modify the struct pt_regs via kprobe combined with freplace when attaching to kernel functions. This could cause the first argument of a kernel function to be forcibly set to zero. The issue has been resolved by disallowing freplace programs from attaching to kprobe programs with differing kprobe_write_ctx values. A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem involving kprobe and freplace uprobe programs allowed modification of the struct pt_regs, enabling manipulation of kernel function arguments. This flaw was addressed by disallowing attaching freplace programs on kprobe programs with differing kprobe_write_ctx values. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds. A patch is available and should be applied to mitigate the risk. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 5.5 and is rated as high severity. Join the discussion | GCVE Database | 06/24/2026, 17:17:00 UTC Added: 07/17/2026, 10:17:19 UTC |
