A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem involving kprobe and freplace programs allowed abuse of the kprobe_write_ctx feature. Specifically, uprobe programs, which have the actual program type KPROBE, could modify the struct pt_regs via kprobe combined with freplace when attaching to kernel functions. This could cause the first argument of a kernel function to be forcibly set to zero. The issue has been resolved by disallowing freplace programs from attaching to kprobe programs with differing kprobe_write_ctx values.
