CVE-2026-54701 is a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the vscode-markdown-preview-enhanced extension for Visual Studio Code. Versions prior to 0.8.30 improperly handle repository-controlled .crossnote/head.html content by inserting it into the preview webview's head without removing executable scripts. This allows script execution before React and DOMPurify initialization, enabling malicious scripts to interact with the extension host. The vulnerability is triggered simply by opening a Markdown preview in a malicious repository. The issue is fixed in version 0.8.30.
