CVE-2026-55558: CWE-74: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component ('Injection') in cole aiosmtplibCVE-2026-55558
0

A vulnerability in aiosmtplib prior to version 5.1.2 allows an active network attacker to desynchronize SMTP command and response pairs during a STARTTLS handshake. This occurs because the SMTPProtocol.start_tls method does not clear its internal buffer after consuming the server's 220 response, causing attacker-injected SMTP response lines to be parsed incorrectly after the transport upgrade. Connections using start_tls=True or opportunistic STARTTLS are affected, while those using use_tls=True are not. The issue is fixed in version 5.1.2.
