CVE-2026-6227: CWE-22 Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in wp_media BackWPup – WordPress Backup & Restore PluginCVE-2026-6227
0

The BackWPup WordPress plugin up to version 5. 6. 6 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the /wp-json/backwpup/v1/getblock REST endpoint via the block_name parameter. This flaw allows authenticated users with Administrator-level access or higher to include arbitrary PHP files on the server by exploiting insufficient sanitization of traversal sequences. This can lead to reading sensitive files like wp-config. php or potentially remote code execution depending on server configuration. Permissions granted to lower-level users to handle backups may also enable exploitation by those users. The vulnerability has a high severity score of 7. 2 and no official patch or remediation guidance has been provided yet.
