A tenant with permission to create HelmRelease custom resources can exploit the HelmRelease controller's elevated ServiceAccount privileges to deploy arbitrary resources cluster-wide, bypassing security controls and namespace restrictions. This leads to significant privilege escalation within the Kubernetes cluster. No official fix or patch is currently confirmed. Mitigation involves restricting untrusted tenants from creating HelmRelease resources via strict Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) policies.
