The flaw involves improper validation of directory-id values read from compressed .solv cache files, which can lead to an out-of-bounds memory write. This causes the affected package management tools to crash, resulting in a denial of service. The vulnerability does not allow arbitrary code execution because the out-of-bounds write only stores a fixed, non-attacker-controlled value. No patch or mitigation is currently available that meets Red Hat's standards for deployment and stability.
