A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in NLnet Labs Unbound up to and including version 1.26.0. The flaw occurs during CNAME synthesis when enforcing a maximum TTL value in the packet buffer, combined with a compression pointer that corrupts the domain name and leads to improper buffer position handling. This can cause heap memory corruption, potentially resulting in a crash or, under specific systems and compilation options, remote code execution.
