CVE-2026-86434: Inefficient Algorithmic Complexity in thephpleague commonmarkCVE-2026-86434 0 A denial of service vulnerability exists in thephpleague commonmark versions 2.0.0 up to but not including 2.8.4. The issue arises in the UniqueSlugNormalizer::normalize() function, which inefficiently restarts its numeric suffix search on every slug collision, causing quadratic time complexity when many headings collapse to the same base slug. This vulnerability can be triggered by an unauthenticated attacker by crafting Markdown documents with many headings that share the same base slug, leading to excessive CPU consumption and denial of service. The vulnerability is triggered when certain extensions like HeadingPermalinkExtension, FootnoteExtension, or TableOfContentsExtension are registered.
