CVE-2026-88853 is a high-severity stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Modals (Pro) extension for Joomla by regularlabs.com. The flaw exists in versions 4.7.0 through 16.2.0, where the extension improperly handles JavaScript event handler options such as on-open and on-closed. This allows a lower-privileged author to inject executable code via article content, exploiting a feature intended only for trusted authors. The vulnerability arises because the affected versions do not differentiate between trusted extension configuration and user-supplied event code.
