CVE-2024-38553 addresses a deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fec network driver. The issue arises because the .ndo_poll_controller interface calls disable_irq() in an atomic context, which can sleep and cause deadlocks. The vulnerability was identified by analogy with a similar issue in the sungem driver. The fix involves removing the unnecessary .ndo_poll_controller implementation from the fec driver, as it uses NAPI for TX completions and does not require this interface.
