CVE-2024-42140 is a medium-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's riscv architecture kexec crash path. It involves a potential deadlock triggered when the kexec crash code is called in interrupt context, due to the machine_kexec_mask_interrupts() function attempting to acquire a spinlock and deactivate irqchip, which can cause the system to hang. The issue arises because riscv's irq handling differs from arm64, and the problematic irq_set_irqchip_state() call is unnecessary and leads to deadlock. The vulnerability has been resolved by removing the irq_set_irqchip_state() call in the affected code path.
