Contrast Kubernetes runtime versions before 1.12.1 have a vulnerability in the secure persistent volume feature where a malicious host can supply a crafted LUKS2 volume with unauthenticated metadata. This allows the host to cause the guest to open the volume and write secret data in plaintext or under a key known to the attacker, exposing confidential data. Versions 1.12.1 and later include cryptsetup 2.8.1 which disables null ciphers with non-empty passphrases, and version 1.13.0 adds further validation and integrity protection. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5.7 and does not impact integrity due to lack of integrity protection in persistent volumes.
