The driver calculates fan RPM using a tachometer value without checking if this value is zero, which can cause a kernel panic due to a divide-by-zero exception. The issue occurs when hardware reports a tachometer value of zero, possibly from hardware glitches or extremely fast pulses. The fix involves validating the divisor to prevent division by zero.
