A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB serial driver for Belkin devices (belkin_sa) was resolved. The flaw involved improper validation of interrupt status length, which could lead to out-of-bounds or stale status-byte reads when processing short interrupt packets. This issue was identified through a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds report. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds. A patch is available and included in updated Linux kernel packages distributed by Ubuntu.

The Linux kernel USB serial driver for Belkin devices (belkin_sa) improperly handled interrupt data by assuming a fixed four-byte status report length. The interrupt-in buffer length is based on the endpoint's wMaxPacketSize, but short interrupt transfers with smaller actual lengths could complete successfully. Without validating the actual interrupt packet length before parsing, the driver could read out-of-bounds or stale status bytes, causing memory safety issues. This vulnerability was detected by KASAN as a slab-out-of-bounds read in belkin_sa_read_int_callback(). The issue has been fixed in Linux kernel updates distributed by Ubuntu in versions 7.0.0-28.28 and later.
