A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dm-pcache component allows an out-of-bounds write into the kernel heap during cache device initialization. The flaw arises because the seg_num value, read from the superblock and controlled by an administrator supplying the cache device, is not properly validated against the actual device size. This can lead to a memory overwrite beyond the intended bounds when initializing cache segments. The vulnerability has been resolved by rejecting invalid seg_num values that are zero, exceed the device capacity, or surpass a defined maximum segment count.
