CVE-2024-46677 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's GTP (GPRS Tunneling Protocol) implementation. It involves a potential NULL pointer dereference caused when sockfd_lookup() fails and gtp_encap_enable_socket() returns a NULL pointer. The callers of this function only check for error pointers and do not handle the NULL pointer case, which can lead to a kernel crash or denial of service. The issue was found during code inspection and has been fixed by returning an appropriate error pointer instead of NULL.
