The issue involved improper handling of non-bridge targets, where incompatible verdicts from ebtables could fallback incorrectly to NFPROTO_UNSPEC in nft_compat. This fallback was disallowed in ebtables itself but was missed in the nft_compat compatibility layer, potentially causing incorrect packet filtering behavior.
