CVE-2024-6829 is a critical vulnerability in aimhubio/aim version 3.19.3 and earlier that allows an attacker to exploit the tarfile.extractall() function to extract files from a malicious tar archive to arbitrary locations on the host server. By controlling certain parameters, the attacker can bypass directory existence checks and overwrite critical files, potentially enabling further attacks such as adding unauthorized SSH keys.
