In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: posix-cpu-timers: Use u64 multiplication in update_rlimit_cpu()… (CVE-2026-72068)CVE-2026-72068 0 A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's posix-cpu-timers code caused incorrect timer expiry programming on 32-bit kernels. The issue arises from a 32-bit multiplication truncation when converting RLIMIT_CPU values to nanoseconds, leading to premature CPU timer expirations for soft limits of 5 seconds or more. This affects only 32-bit kernels; 64-bit kernels are not impacted. The enforcement of CPU time limits remains correct, but the timer expiry cache is set incorrectly. The vulnerability has been resolved by applying a 64-bit cast to the multiplication to ensure correct calculations.
