In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing: Avoid NULL return from hist_field_name() on truncation… (CVE-2026-64028)CVE-2026-64028 0 A vulnerability in the Linux kernel tracing subsystem was resolved to prevent a NULL return from the hist_field_name() function when truncation occurs. The function hist_field_name() normally returns an empty string except in a specific fully-qualified VAR_REF/EXPR case where snprintf() truncation could cause an early NULL return. This NULL return was not expected by callers, leading to potential NULL pointer dereferences in strcat() and strcmp() calls. The issue arises because the field name derived from a histogram variable name has no length limit, allowing a long variable name to trigger the truncation path. The fix keeps the length check but ensures the field_name remains an empty string on overflow, avoiding NULL returns.
