A vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA es18xx driver was resolved by adding a check for control allocation failure before setting private data. The snd_es18xx_mixer() function previously did not verify if snd_ctl_new1() returned NULL, potentially causing NULL pointer dereference. This issue has been fixed by validating control pointers and returning an error on allocation failure.
