Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14 contain a vulnerability where an unauthenticated user can inject arbitrary Search Processing Language (SPL) into requests searching for events near a selected event. This occurs because Splunk Web does not consistently escape user-supplied values when constructing SPL for nearby-event searches, and embedded report access does not enforce the expected authorization checks. This could allow unauthorized search execution.
