CVE-2024-50182 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memfd_secret() syscall on certain arm64 architectures that cannot set a direct memory map. On these systems, memfd_secret() would appear to succeed but fail to remove memory from the direct map, undermining its intended security function. The fix disables memfd_secret() on affected architectures by returning an error, preventing silent failures. Most arm64 systems are unaffected due to default kernel configurations enabling the direct map feature.
