A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's PCI/sysfs interface caused an out-of-bounds read in the pci_write_legacy_io() function. This occurred because the function loaded 4 bytes from a buffer regardless of the actual number of bytes written by userspace, leading to slab-out-of-bounds reads reported by KASAN. The issue affected the legacy_io sysfs file, which is root-only and present only on Alpha and PowerPC architectures. The vulnerability has been resolved by adjusting the code to read only the requested number of bytes using appropriate little-endian helpers, correcting byte ordering issues on PowerPC platforms.
