This flaw occurs when an attacker-controlled MIME magic file located in a user-writable XDG data directory is parsed by an application performing MIME type detection, potentially causing an out-of-bounds write of 2 bytes. The vulnerability can lead to application crashes or memory corruption. Exploitation requires local user interaction to install a malicious MIME magic file and trigger MIME type detection. Red Hat has released a security update addressing this issue in glib2 packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and related products.
