The issue occurs because the function dereferences a pointer (idev) without checking if it is NULL, which can happen when the device's MTU drops below the minimum IPv6 MTU, causing the pointer to be cleared. This can lead to a kernel crash (KASAN null pointer dereference) when processing IPv6 packets under specific conditions involving MTU flapping and ping6 traffic flooding. The fix involves adding a NULL check for idev in the ipv6_rthdr_rcv function before calling the affected functions, preventing the NULL dereference and dropping the packet safely.
