CVE-2024-40915 addresses a flaw in the Linux kernel's riscv architecture code where the debug function __kernel_map_pages() could sleep in an invalid atomic context. This occurs because __kernel_map_pages() uses __set_memory(), which acquires a semaphore and may sleep, violating atomic context constraints. The issue has been fixed by rewriting __kernel_map_pages() to use apply_to_existing_page_range(), eliminating the need for locking and preventing illegal sleeping.
