A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the GNU debugger (GDB) when connecting to a remote debug target. A malicious remote target can trigger this overflow during the connection handshake, potentially causing GDB to crash or allowing arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the user running GDB. There is no available mitigation other than connecting only to trusted debug targets.
