CVE-2024-43863 is a medium-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/vmwgfx driver that causes a deadlock during dma buffer fence polling. The issue arises from a locking conflict when fences are signaled and destroyed while polling, leading to a deadlock that can stall user applications such as KDE. The vulnerability has been fixed by introducing a version of the fence operations that avoids removing fences from the pending list on release, thus preventing the deadlock.
