A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd SMB2 server component allowed clients with limited file handle permissions to modify file security descriptors without proper authorization. Specifically, the SMB2 SET_INFO SECURITY operation lacked a required WRITE_DAC or WRITE_OWNER permission check, enabling unauthorized changes to file ownership and access control lists (ACLs). This issue has been resolved by adding the missing permission checks to prevent unauthorized re-permissioning of files.
