A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Ceph component was resolved. The flaw occurs in the check_new_map() function when a session is freed during an unlock operation, leading to potential access of freed memory. This happens because certain code paths do not properly take a reference on the session object before releasing a mutex, allowing another thread to free the session while it is still in use. The fix adds proper reference counting around mutex unlock and lock operations to prevent the UAF condition.
