A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem driver was resolved that could cause a kernel panic due to improper sanity checks on node footers for non-inode dnodes. The issue arises when a non-inode dnode is misinterpreted as an inode because it shares the same footer identifiers, leading to incorrect block address calculations and a subsequent kernel panic. This flaw was identified and fixed by introducing a new node type and enhanced footer sanity checks to detect such corruption.
