A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ext4 filesystem was resolved that prevented an inode reference count underflow during extended attribute (EA) updates. The flaw allowed the EA inode refcount to drop below zero, causing filesystem errors and potential corruption. The fix enforces a check that treats non-positive refcounts as on-disk corruption, aborting the operation to prevent underflow and related issues.
