CVE-2024-42142 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mlx5 network driver related to the E-switch ingress ACL creation. The ingress ACL is used for multiple features but was only created under certain conditions, causing a kernel panic when creating a drop rule in active-backup lag mode if the ACL was missing. The issue is fixed by ensuring the ingress ACL is created when needed, preventing the panic at the cost of a minor performance impact.
