A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nilfs2 filesystem was resolved by preventing out-of-bounds reads during super-root block parsing. The issue involved trusting the super-root inode metadata size before validation, which could lead to reading beyond the filesystem block size. This flaw was addressed by rejecting super-root inode sizes whose on-disk footprint exceeds the filesystem block size, preventing malformed filesystem images from causing out-of-bounds reads.
