0

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem was resolved involving incorrect accounting of special zero mappings in page_table_check_set() and page_table_check_clear(). An unprivileged process could exploit this by populating enough zero mappings to overflow file_map_count and trigger a kernel BUG_ON() condition. The fix involves skipping special zero mappings in user page-table accounting paths to prevent this overflow.
