CVE-2024-42273 is a medium-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem. It occurs when the kernel assigns the CURSEG_ALL_DATA_ATGC flag incorrectly if a block address is valid, leading to a kernel BUG triggered during certain file operations involving compression and truncation. This causes a kernel crash (BUG_ON) at fs/f2fs/segment.c:3589. The flaw arises from assigning CURSEG_ALL_DATA_ATGC to COMPR_ADDR where the page was already marked with a garbage collection flag.
