Vikunja version 2.6.0 contains a regression in its project permission engine where explicit lower-permission shares on sub-projects are silently overridden by higher inherited permissions from parent projects. This causes intended access restrictions on child projects to be ignored, allowing users to gain higher privileges than intended. The issue stems from a change in permission resolution logic from 'nearest-ancestor-wins' in v2.5.0 to 'maximum permission wins' in v2.6.0. This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized modification, deletion, and re-sharing of sensitive sub-projects.
